Turkey is my life's work.
I grew up between the cobblestones of Istanbul and the olive groves of the Aegean coast, and I've spent the last two decades exploring every corner of this extraordinary country — from the volcanic valleys of Cappadocia to the wild, rarely visited highlands of the Black Sea.

No fluff, no sponsorship bias. These are the things I wish someone had told me before my first dozen trips across Turkey.
Visa & Entry
- Most nationalities get a 90-day e-Visa in minutes at evisa.gov.tr — apply at least 48 hours before departure.
- EU & UK passport holders currently pay around $50 USD; always check the official portal as fees change seasonally.
- Border crossings from Georgia and Bulgaria are straightforward, but stamp your passport clearly to avoid issues on exit.

- A comfortable daily budget in Istanbul runs ₺1,500–2,500 (roughly $50–80); coastal towns like Bodrum can be pricier in July–August.
- Pay with Turkish Lira in cash at bazaars and local restaurants — you'll often get a 10–15{52592e559a4ae8bf0b8076f04efb656262ffb63db515003444b269d735633d56} informal discount vs. card.
- Avoid airport currency exchange; use local ATMs (Ziraat or Garanti) for the best rates and withdraw larger amounts to minimise fees.

- Intercity buses (Flixbus Turkey partners like Metro or Kamil Koç) are cheap, reliable, and often faster than you'd expect — book via obilet.com.
- The Istanbul metro & tram network is excellent; get an Istanbulkart on arrival and top it up at any kiosk for seamless travel.
- For Cappadocia, Ephesus, and the Turquoise Coast, domestic flights on Turkish Airlines or Pegasus save days — book 6–8 weeks ahead.
